Using Text Messaging to Support eConsent
FollowThe eConsent process doesn't end when a participant signs. Research teams need to make sure participants receive their consent documents, stay informed throughout the study, and can easily re-consent when protocols change. Text messaging can play a valuable supporting role at each of these stages.
How Text Messaging Supports eConsent
- Consent reminders: Send a text to participants who haven't yet completed their eConsent, with a direct link to the consent survey in REDCap.
- Confirmation messages: After a participant signs, send an automated text confirming their consent was received and providing a link to their signed PDF.
- Re-consent notifications: When a protocol changes and participants need to re-consent, a text message is the fastest way to reach them and link directly to the updated consent form.
- Study reminders and follow-ups: Keep consented participants engaged with appointment reminders, survey links, and study updates delivered via text.
How It Works with Mosio and REDCap
Mosio integrates directly with REDCap, allowing research teams to trigger text messages based on REDCap events. For example, you can configure an alert in REDCap that sends a text via Mosio when a consent form is incomplete after a set period, or when a new consent version needs to be signed.
This keeps the eConsent workflow moving without requiring manual follow-up from your study coordinators.
